News

Although this is by no means a complete list of news items regarding the Shuswap Society of Skateboarders or the new park, various items of importance will be announced here over time. Check back for new items occasionally, at least.

April 10, 2006:

George Abbott - MLA for the Shuswap - met with John Lund of the Salmon Arm Central Lions Club and representatives of the Shuswap Society of Skateboarders at the site of the new skateboard park to present the Society with funds which were awarded to our Society by the BC Lottery Foundation. Members of the local press were on hand to get pictures and the story for local papers. The funds will be administered by the Lions Society on behalf of the SSOS, and are instrumental in helping us begin construction on the first phase of our new skateboard park.

Our thanks are extended to the BC Lottery Foundation for supporting amateur sports in BC, George Abbott, and especially to John Lund and other members of the Lions Society, who have been extremely helpful to the SSOS in so many ways including with the fundraising. Without the Lions Club's direct involvement, we may not have received the grant from the BC Lottery Foundation, so their help and support is sincerely appreciated. More details about the funding and the presentation - with pictures - will follow upon publication of the story in local newspapers.

February 8, 2006:

There will be a meeting at 7:30pm on Wednesday, February 8 at Ridetech to offer any suggestions that you would like to see included in the final design of the skatepark. This is the last chance members have to change things before the design is finalized. Please spread the word to everyone you know that skates so we can have as much input as possible. Thanks for your support and we hope to see you there.

June 8, 2005:

The Salmon Arm Observer published an article, "Skaters see a vision", on page A2 Vol. 98 No. 23 of the newspaper. Sam Cooper is the Observer reporter who came and covered our special meeting on June 2, 2005, when Kyle Dion of van der Zalm + associates inc unveiled the new skate park design concept for members and other meeting attendees.

Many thanks to reporter Sam Cooper and to Observer Editor Tracey Hughes who has kindly allowed the SSOS to scan and make the article available here for members to view. The Salmon Arm Observer/Sam Cooper retains full ownership and copyright of the article and its accompanying picture.
