Fundraising

Please see below for information about various fundraisers we have had and/or are planning. Our goal is to raise $250,000 for construction of the first phase of the skateboard park. We're almost there, so construction can begin this year! The first step is to now begin site preparation (which could take three to six months), so the first phase of our park may not actually be ready to use before spring 2007. Regardless of when the first phase is complete, we will continue to work hard to raise money to meet our ultimate goal of building a complete, new skateboard park for Salmon Arm and area skaters! Your support in any form - monetary donations, material donations, membership fees (only $5!), fundraising help and/or anything else that can help us build our park - is greatly appreciated.

June 26, 2005: DC Nationals Skateboarding Championships - Local Qualifiers

Coming very soon! Although not a skateboard society event, the competition will be attended by SSOS members both for competing and for fundraising/membership drive purposes. The competition will be held at the Sicamous skate park with registration starting at 11 am and skating begins around 1 pm. Skater categories include boys open, boys 13 and under, and girls open. All ages are eligible in the open categories. First, second and third place will be awarded, and the top five in the open category will be eligible for the regional qualifiers in Vancouver on July 23/24. More information about the event itself can be found at the DC Nationals site. Our fundraising results will appear on this page after the event, and pictures will be added to our galleries.

May 28, 2005: Skateboarding Clinic at Centenoka Park Mall

A skateboarding clinic, co-sponsored by Ridetech, was held in the west parking lot of Centenoka Park mall on May 28, 2005. Interested new skaters attended and for a $5 donation to the skateboard society were able to receive instruction from and watch demos performed by local skaters. The Central Lions Club held a barbeque with proceeds coming to the skateboard society, and bottle collections also helped raise some funds for the society.

The event was attended by some very enthusiastic new skateboarders, and the society was able to sign up a number of new members at the information table we had there. The event was successful in raising some much-appreciated funds for the society, to go towards building our new skate park.

You can see the promotional flyer from Monica Gail Kriese of Gail-Force Marketing** (Marketing and Promotions Director for Centenoka Park Mall) advertising the event, or visit the SSOS galleries to see some photographs of the event. These photos were kindly submitted by Phil McIntyre-Paul (of Luminous Experiential Event Designs), who is father of a young man named Jacob who attended the clinic and greatly enjoyed the experience.

Anyone who has more photos of this event (or any skateboard society event) is invited to send them to the webmaster for inclusion in our galleries. Copyright of all photographs and other associated materials remain with their owner, and will be credited as such here on the site.
